MISSION:
The mission of Section III Athletics is to provide a governing body that shall organize, administer and facilitate the interscholastic athletic programs for member schools within Section III of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA).
COMMUNICATION:
All parties (student-athletes, coaches, athletic directors and parents) are encouraged to model "chain of command" protocols for communication. By modeling this form of communication, we are demonstrating appropriate protocol our student-athletes will use throughout their professional and personal lives as they seek understanding, information and clarifications on decisions impacting them.
Communication with first the coach, then the school principal or athletic administrator is the most beneficial and preferred contact and resource for parents and student-athletes. Section III reinforces school personnel as the source to which parents and student-athletes must direct their questions. Section III understands that parent and student questions are important. We thank you for your understanding and for supporting our commitment to high quality service directly to our member schools, and through schools, to parents and students. Section III is always available as a resource for School Administrators and Athletic Directors who seek rule clarifications and/or interpretations prior to their discussions with coaches, student-athletes or parents. All communication and interpretations from parents and other unofficial parties will be considered informational only and will not oblige Section III or the Athletic Council to take any action with respect to the communication.
Anonymous communication is difficult, at best, for the Section III staff to handle. Typically the requested interpretations must be put in context in order to be handled appropriately. Consequently, it is the policy of Section III that any anonymous communications be forwarded to the school administrator in question for further discussion.
APPEALS:
Section III is a membership organization and will only hear formal appeals from its member schools. All notices of appeal require the member school's Athletic Director and Superintendent signatures in order to process the appeal and allow it to be considered.
